Lab Facilities

Dr. Miller oversees the Ancient Technology lab spaces at UTM (HSC Rooms 417 and 417A), but the archaeologists at UTM and U of T collaborate to make appropriate space available in the 4th floor labs as needed for student projects, so this facility represents only a portion of available equipment for graduate students in the program.

Lab resources include a large array of accumulated tools and materials for experimental research, from clay to stone to hide to metals to fibers and beyond. A selection of comparative ethnographic materials are also available. Basic equipment includes access to a fume hood, drying ovens, small charring kiln, and (currently) basic materials for very small-scale hand-made petrographic slide production. Outdoor research project space can be made available.

Prospective graduate students interested in working with the lab may contact Dr. Miller for more details.
