EVALUATING THE EFFICACY OF CREATIVE MEDIUMS IN FINANCIAL LITERACY INSTRUCTION

The proposed project bridges the world of finance and creative expression. The project focuses on connecting the participants’ intimately with financial concepts through collaborative relationship building, self-reflection, inquiry and creative expression. Participants in the project will be required to explain or express a financial concept using any one of the following mediums of expression: spoken word, mosaic, painting, drawing, sculpture, dance, music, song, photos, short story, animation, blog posts and articles. For financial education and training to be effective and lasting it has to resonate viscerally with the participant. The project focuses on creative and critical thinking to deconstruct and re-imagine the existing social-economic paradigm which currently informs their decision making.  The project is designed to produce inventive, self-directed learners who are able to analyze their situations, devise a course of action, implement and monitor their personal finances based on their specific life circumstances.  This innovative approach to financial literacy is required because traditional methods of teaching financial literary have not been proven to be effective.
