Residents and Urban Forests

Project Overview

The overall purpose of this project is to explore the role of residents in shaping the urban forest. The majority of trees in the urban forest are located on private residential properties, making residents key managers of urban forests. The decisions made by residents and the characteristics of their properties and households can have significant impact on the quantity, distribution and condition of urban forests, now and over many decades. This projects aims to shed light on the complex relationship humans have with their urban forests, focusing on the residential household-scale.
